This dark photo of 6-year-old Ate is an attempt to take a picture without a flash in the dark confines of the Nido Science Discovery Center’s Digistar Planetarium in the SM Mall of Asia. We saw the “One World, One Sky” show featuring Sesame Street characters Big Bird, Elmo and a “monster” from China who all talked about the sun, the moon and the stars. This is the Pastillas Dulce de Leche cheesecake we ordered in Bagoong Club one weekend. I know, my camera phone didn’t do it justice, but please don’t let that poor shot deter you from going there and ordering this heavenly confection.
I have this new and odd habit of being very quiet after having tasted something different and oh-so delicious. Like I’m in a trance. I feel I need to be silent to savor every bit of a gustatory delight. This one did just that. My husband asked me what was the matter. “Masarap,” I replied like a robot, as if an extra word and the tiniest bit of enthusiasm would diminish the fireworks. He laughed at me. Deadma. That’s how good it is.
We don’t normally order dessert, but when Cookie found out we were going to visit this restaurant for the first time, she said this is a must-try. I agree, you HAVE to order this.
Every member of this family uses the computer every. single. day, so it is no surprise that 2-year-old Bunso has learned how to use it too. When he insists that it’s his turn, I log on to Starfall before I plop him in front of the computer.
I found this website when Kuya was just 3. He wanted to get his hands on the PC and I was looking for online kiddie games that offered more than just coloring pictures or quests. I loved it the first time Kuya and I logged on to it. It has helped me teach the alphabet to Kuya, Ate, and now, Bunso. Starfall teaches the alphabet the same way a teacher reads ABC books, but with snazzy effects so it’s really interesting.
I used to navigate the site for him, but one day, he decided he could do it himself haha! I have to do the helicopter mom act though, as soon as he uses the computer. The site can be really engaging and if I’m not careful, he could be online for too long. I’m not comfortable with the idea of him spending too much time on the computer so I have a few tricks up my sleeve to get him off it
By the way, see that odd-shaped paper clipped on my file box? That’s actuallly the shape of a heart with wings. Ate made it, and wrote “I love you mom” and “You’re the best.” Definitely a pick-me-upper!
My husband and I just got a letter from the school, requesting that we allow first grader Ate to be a member of the school choir. Oh joy! First graders are not required to join organizations in this school, so we are tickled pink that the teacher recognized her talent that she is being recruited despite her being so young.
This means though, that Ate has to stay in school till 430 pm for practice once a week. That part is a headache, since the school is over 10 kms from home. But Ate is so pumped up about this, so going home late from school it is. The girl has no qualms performing in front of people, and the times she spent on stage were among her favorite moments back in preschool. So alright then, we’ll let her embrace this opportunity to shine.
The other night, I had a dream where my parents, my husband, the kids and I were rushing from the third floor of a huge building to an elevator that would bring us to the ground floor. We didn’t want to miss the ferry boat docked down there.
We reached the elevator, and found there were two. One seemed to be stuck on the 3rd floor, and its huge door remained closed. The one with a smaller door beside it was moving down one level after another, but it was waaaay up there on the 1,834th floor. I swear, the number was indeed 1,834!
I was getting impatient so I looked for another elevator. It seemed I had been in the building before, and I remembered there was another one somewhere.
Eureka! I found another elevator at the other side of the mall. It was open and there were people inside, waiting for me to get in. But I had to miss it, I had to get the rest of my family first.
So I ran back to the elevator where I left them, to tell them that the other elevator was moving along. But my family was no longer there. And elevator 1 was still stuck on 3, while the other one was still on 1,834.
I saw that my family were already going down the stairs, telling me to hurry. I caught up with them and we all went down the flight of stairs which never seemed to end.
I no longer told them about the elevator that worked. We were moving so quickly down the never-ending stairs but I just knew we would still miss the ferry boat. A feeling of sadness and loss crept over me – would we have reached the ground floor had we gotten in that elevator instead?
Then I woke up. I never got to see if we even reached the ground floor.
And yes, I get vivid dreams pretty often.
