Like Mother, Like Kids
Nine-year old Kuya was sitting cross-legged on the floor of our storage room, reading an old magazine. Beside him was a pile of more old magazines and books. I found that scene so beautiful because he reminded me of me! When I was his age, I would also leaf through my old books and magazines for want of something new to read, or to go back and relish the story all over again.
So we headed to the bookstore for new finds, and to nurture the bookworm in him.
That is a lovely bookshelf we found in the children’s books section of Powerbooks. There is a bean-shaped space under the shelf which encourages the kids to lie down, relax and enjoy browsing.
Powerbooks was offering a 20% discount to most of the items, so book shopping became even sweeter. Kuya got himself a Geronimo Stilton and the first book of How To Train Your Dragon. I threw in Book 2 for good measure. I was suggesting a storybook for 5-year old Ate, but she wanted to be just like Kuya and chose a novel about Cinderella instead.
Me, I got myself nothing. Just looking at them reading the books as soon as we got homeĀ is more than enough for me.
