Bringing Food

The plastic containers have egg salad sandwiches and hotdogs. Those tumblers carry orange juice, and not in the photo is a flask of coffee.

That bag was not for a day in the park. Hubby and I were going to a government office to process some papers.

I have started bringing a bag of snacks just recently, when going to my son’s school, to the grocery, even to the mall. It all began when I just got annoyed of having to pick a restaurant  or go to a drive-thru in a rush because we were hungry or thirsty.

I realized that many times, we had to go to restaurants we didn’t really want to go to in the first place, or buy tasteless food in stalls, because we were in an “emergency.”  Most importantly, don’t you agree that this behavior is a waste of money?

And so I decided I should plan for snacks whenever we are going out. Like when we had to go to that government office, and I knew we would be stuck there for hours, I prepared this bag of food. True enough, we all got hungry and thirsty, and what a relief it was not to walk out of the queue to get something to eat.

If it is a quick trip to the nearby mall, I bring a thermos of coffee for myself and a tumbler of juice for the kids. My kids always get thirsty and in the past,  I had to go to these kiosks selling drinks. But now, no more. No need to spend too much money for a cup of juice.

Not only do I get to save money, I am also assured that our snacks are nutritious. It doesn’t have empty calories and too much oil and sugar and salt which are the stuff most fastfoods are made of.

Also, we all get to pick a nice restaurant, enjoy the ambience and the food and each other’s company. No rush to pick the first that is nearest and could serve food the fastest because we are all cranky with hunger.

We do that. Whenever we go to my inlaws and I will be teaching, we bring the big thermos, the containers of cereals, milk, loaf of bread and a jar of bread spread.

When we have to go somewhere like church or just pasyal, me have sandwiches and water, if not, juice prepared at home, or even tetra brick drinks for the kids.

We always have baon when in Ortigas too, not just to save on money but to make sure we have nutritious food.

what a clever idea! at least you’re assured that the food you’re eating is sanitized and all healthy.

me, uhmmmm, medyo guilty. tamad kasi ako mag pack ng food, if not my kid’s baon or our baon when going to picnics.

Just like you, it’s been my habit to bring one chest of food (just the small 6-pack Coleman chest) whenever I go out with the kids. A jug of cold water is always constant, esp since V doesn’t drink anything else but water. Tsaka mahal na rin bottled water ha.

Mga wais na misis we are, aren’t we? :D

we need to be wais nowadays, ang hirap ng buhay ;) oh yes, bottled water is more often priced like liquid gold, so we better bring our own water.
