Beginnings

I planted a handful of bok choy seeds in a pot of soil-less mix last week. This morning I was greeted by these spots of green.

I will transfer them in a larger pot, hopefully, in a week or two. The seed packet says I will be able to harvest them in 35 days. I am so excited, I can already imagine the steaming plate of sauteed vegetables on our table.

The bell peppers are also growing well.

They did not come from a seed packet, though. I was slicing some large bell peppers last week and I thought of how lovely to grow these peppers myself. So I took out the seeds and planted them in the pot.

I’m not sure, however, if that is a good idea - planting seeds directly from its source. I read somewhere that to be certain of a bountiful harvest, we should get seeds or seedlings from the right suppliers.

I guess we will all find out soon. If I don’t get peppers, at least there will be plenty of leaves for chicken tinola.

My younger sister gave birth last weekend to a sweet baby girl.

It was a pleasure just looking at her face in the nursery. She looks just like her big sister. We all can’t wait to have her home.

She is now the 4th grandchild of my parents, my son being the eldest. And he is also the only guy, at least for the next year or so. My son was praying for a male cousin, but obviously, God has other plans. Nevertheless, he is still as happy as we are.

Beautiful beginnings! Of flora and of human life. Beautiful write-up too.

Which reminds me I have packets of seeds bought from the micro entrepreneurs lining the sidewalk to NSO weeks ago. I should plant them too. I made sure I got my fave veggies, including okra and petchay. I also love the feeling I get when I see the greens peeking out. And more so when I harvest farm-fresh veggies to cook.
