The Mysterious X
Early last week, my mom sent the househelp back home when the latter saw two men on the lawn, looking at the house.
Why are you here, she asked, at which point the two men just walked away. Alarmed, she called my mom upon entering the house and locked all doors.
Later that week, my mom and the helper was about to leave when they noticed an X written in chalk on their gate’s post. My mom was filled with foreboding and washed away the X mark. They double-checked the locks on the doors and left home with a prayer.
That evening, a neighbor arrived home and found his house robbed.
We couldn’t help associating the two strange men and the X mark with the robbery. We are so glad my mom noticed it or who knows what could have happened.
So among the things we should do to insure safety at home is to regularly check our fences for any markings. Just a quick perusal, takes just a minute or two. It may be a harmless scribble and that smiley face in crayon may have been left by our neighbor’s children but we better err on the side of caution.

Even in our village where security is more strict than in others, home robberies still happen. Kailangan talaga doble-ingat sa lahat ng bagay. Good thing your mom had quick thinking.

Watching the news last night on the doctor and her family just freaked me out. I can’t imagine the horror they did to the people inside the house. It’s better to be extra vigilant these days.

nakakatakot naman yan. naalala ko tuloy yung sinunog na bahay sa QC kung saan nakita yung mga bangkay sa loob nung nasunog na bahay.
tama ka, talaga. dapat double-check parati yung mga lock at pinto at dapat may taong bahay parati.

bago lang kami pinasok ng magnanakaw. they got my bro and sis-in-law’s cps plus cash. hahayyy grabe ang takot namin nung kinaumagahan kaya report agad sa police. three days after kapit-bahay na naman namin ang nanakawan..same modus.
kaya ngayon todo check na kami sa lahat ng doors at windows bago matulog.

Uh-oh, you are making me nervous, Cess. Andami na talaga masasamang loob.
We have this neighbor who decided to rent his lot to a Coke warehouse, andaming lalaki nasa tapat namin palagi, strangers, kargador, pahinante, driver, what-have-yous. We are not home 3x/week and during these days, its Trixie who goes home first, around 5pm. We get home past 8pm na. She doesn’t want naman to be brought here in my inlaws house. Mahirap talaga, one reason I decided to remove one day from work. If only I can be full SAHM, I would probably do so.

Yes, double check all doors and windows. And maybe, put double locks on all of them. And for extra measure get a big dog to guard the house.

as sexymom said, we should be vigilant. sometimes we simply need to follow our instincts, too, and what’s an extra check on the locks if it’s for safety reasons, di ba? pero kahit na, scary story but a real warning.
