By Herself
I asked for help when I was small
But now I’m bigger I can do it all
I’m feeling proud as you can tell
‘Cause I can do it by myself.
This song was sung by Baby Bop, the (perpetually) 3-year old green dinosaur in Barney.
This is the current song playing in my head after an incident in the school playground awhile ago. I screamed my head off when I found my 2 1/2 -year old daughter on top of the slide.
She climbed on top all by herself.
I’m guessing it’s 4 feet high, but 4 or 10 or 20, it didn’t matter to me. I was certain my daughter would lose balance and fall.
My husband hushed me. “Mababa lang yan ‘no?”
“But she’s only two!” I whined as I assisted her.
Minutes later, she was climbing up and sliding down all by herself and with ease.
Ok, so I’m proud to see her proud of her new achievement. But I can’t help feeling a wee bit sentimental.
Looking forward to seeing you conquer more slides in life, baby girl!…. *sniff*

Look at her smile, Cess, its as if she is telling you “Mom,its ok, this is easy!”
At that age, they want to do things for themselves and tend to fend off help. Wait till she turns 6 or 8 or 12
LC: i have an idea what happens around 6. sigh, have to get used being fended off by my baby huh?

That’s good, Cess. She’s a brave girl and independent. When she’s a bit grown up she’ll not need your help that much.
In the meantime, enjoy them; have fun with them. I don’t have to say, “…and love them,” because I know you do.

It’s difficult to just let go ‘no? I was in a similar situation last weekend. I let Kelvin climb in a huge jungle gym thinking he will stay within eyesight. I didn’t count on him following the bigger boys, I lost him. I was going crazy thinking either he gets hurt or goes out some other way and I lose him. Hay. I thought my heart stopped beating.

Ganyan din ako ke Basti. But looking at her photo, it seems she wants to tell you that everything’s going to be just fine.
Have a great week ahead

I know that song too.
Remarkable milestone. I’m glad she’s not afraid of reaching new heights and accomplishing a new challenge. Brave lil’ girl.

Babies and toddlers are full of milestones … and they come months of each other. Tbat is why the aphorosim goes — all i need to learn i have learnt in kindergarten. Enjoy them now — the joys and the jitters. Learn to protect some, let go some. All best to you and your family, m’lady.
